The Equipment

Beware of part-time DJ's!

Most part-time DJ's and entertainers rent some or all of their equipment to do parties and gigs. This is a disadvantage for them and for you because they're never completely familiar with the equipment they're using, putting your event at risk of a poor performance. Rental equipment is also at a higher risk of failure during a performance since it is used and abused excessively. Before you contract a DJ ask them if they own they're equipment or if they rent they're equipment.

I know of a talented DJ who unfortunately ruined a customer's event when the rental company where he usually rents his stuff messed up on his reservation for the equipment. The day of the party he went to pick up the equipment as usual, and was informed by the rental company that they were out of rentals for the day. I cannot imagine what he said to the client afterwards, but the point is, you don't want to be that client!

Our equipment

At Sound Elements we own all of the equipment we use for events. This means that we are 100% familiar with the equipment used which gives us an edge during the performance that the other guys can't offer. This also means that your party will not be ruined by malfunctioning equipment, or as it happened to the guy I mentioned, MISSING equipment.

Another advantage of choosing Sound Elements for your special event is that we use only state-of-the-art sound equipment. Many DJ companies claim the same, so you should be very careful about this when shopping around for a DJ. Ask them what brand of equipment they use, ask them how long they've had the equipment and ask them how do they care for their equipment. If they can't give you a confident response, this could be a problem.

Brands we use

We usually don't promote brands or manufacturers, but the equipment we use gives so much confidence to us and to our clients that it is worth mentioning it here. The main brand we use for speakers, subwoofers and sound reinforcement is Electro-Voice. Electro-Voice or EV manufactures the best and most reliable sound products we've ever used!

Many mobile DJs may claim other brands as the best brand out there (e.g. JBL, QSC) but if you are well informed, you will realize that Electro-Voice is the most reputable, and it is used by long-established sound contractors in live concerts, soccer stadiums (2010 World Cup), and in the #1 nightclub in New York City: Pacha NYC.

Other quality brands we use are: Peavey (Speakers), Shure (microphones and headphones), HOSA (wiring), Vocopro (karaoke), Denon (turntables and USB controllers), Allen Heath (live mixers), Eminence (custom sound cabinets), Behringer (EQ's), Eliminator (lights, smoke machine), Hewlett-Packard (computers), Apple (computers).

Arrival and Setup

We will arrive no later than 1 hour prior to the start time to allow time for proper equipment installations and sound checks. We prefer to arrive earlier if at all possible, so please ask the venue if there will be access inside before the scheduled start time. For venues without ramp access or difficult entries (e.g. no elevator, stairs only to the third floor) we must arrive even earlier. There will also be an extra travel charge for these types of venues, so please consult with them before hand, or give us their contact information and we will find out for you.

Every venue is different

You've seen it before: the DJ that brings the same set up to every single gig. Every venue is different and deserves proper attention. The sound equipment used for a backyard party should not be the same for a grand Ballroom. We pay close attention to the type of venue we will be performing at and plan on which equipment and which set up will work best. The acoustics are different everywhere, depending on the type of building, the shape of the room, the ceiling height, the number of walls, the number of people in attendance, even the material used on table linens! We understand these variations and are well prepared to tune our systems accordingly to provide great sounding music and vocals to any venue.

As a side note, do not pour your confidence in the DJ that plans to bring one of these:

Sure it might look cute and elegant, but let's face it: this is not professional sound equipment. This is something that will look good in your living room not in a live performance. You will never see tiny speakers like those at a club or a concert would you? We provide excellent sound reinforcement to your event, big or small, without sacrificing quality or space. That said, steer clear of obnoxious DJs that offer you one of these:

Those DJs bring an excessive amount of low-quality equipment, thinking that the more speakers they have, the better the sound. As sound professionals we understand that quantity does not mean quality, specially for small to medium-sized events. Of course if you're planning a wedding of 500+ guests there should be enough sound coverage placed in key places around the room.

Can't hear each other talk?

The volume of the music is a very important factor during any performance. Too loud and you'll make your guests uncomfortable and angry, not to mention the potential damage you're causing their hearing. We turn the volume up to an appropriate volume level to which everyone in the room can have fun without having to cover their ears. In rare occasions you may ask us to turn the volume up or down to your preference.

Speeches

Don't have your speeches ruined by the malfunctioning microphone or the microphone with poor range. We use some of the best wireless microphone units to make that speech as memorable as it should be.

Guarantee

Place your confidence in us and we guarantee you're event will be one to be remembered for years to come!
